The past few days have been dreadful for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the most recent champions of the Indian Premier League. After their victory on June 3, a big event was planned for June 4, but then the chaos began. Thousands of RCB fans, trying to catch a glimpse of their favorite players, poured into the Chinnaswamy Stadium and in the ensuing rush, stampede broke out. Sadly, there have been over 11 deaths and more than 50 have been injured.
In the aftermath, there was widespread uproar on social media, more because the police had already asked the organizers not to hold the event. Now an FIR has been lodged against RCB star player Virat Kohli, and the marketing head is in custody.
Some vociferously want the surrender of the franchise for two years-the very fate that befell CSK and RR a few years back. Those franchises were suspended in 2016 and 2017 over grave matters pertaining to spot fixing and betting scandals.

There is no conclusive evidence to suggest that any RCB player called for the celebration, but many feel that heed should have been paid to some warnings by the management. It appears that a failure on the part of both RCB management and the Karnataka government has occurred. If found guilty after a thorough investigation, the IPL governing body might have to consider banning the team as well.
