Former Australia captain Michael Clarke has been inducted into Australia’s Hall Of Fame. He accepted the honor on Thursday, January 23. Clarke is the 64th player to be inducted in the Australia’s Hall Of Fame and two more members will be named towards the end of the 2024-25. The 43-year-old made his First Class debut at the age of 17 and a few years later, in 2004, made his Test debut.

The right-hander made his ODI debut in 2003 and his last game was the ODI World Cup 2015 final against New Zealand. Talking about his last Test, it was the last match of the Ashes 2015 at the age of 34. It’s been a little less than 10 years since he retired. Clarke’s captaincy stint started after Australia bowed out of the first round at the T20 World Cup 2009.

In Test matches, Clarke started leading the Test after Australia were brutally beaten by England (3-1) in the 2010-11 Ashes. Few months later, after Australia failed to defend their ODI World Cup in 2011, New South Wales became all format captain. After retirement in 2015, he has taken the broadcasting job and has been working as an expert in different TV channels.

Australia Cricket Hall of Fame chairperson, Peter King praised Clarke for the latter’s illustrious career.

“Michael’s extraordinary first-class playing career started at just 17 at the SCG – the place where many of his highlights occurred, including a Test triple century against India in 2012,” King said.

“Michael’s career will forever be remembered fondly by the Australian public and his standing held alongside those at the upper echelon of our game.”

Apart from winning the ODI World Cup 2007 champion medal as a player, he led Australia to another World Cup win in 2015. He is the first Australia captain to lead his side to a T20 World Cup final in 2010.
