In the first Test against India, former West Indies batsman Sir Vivian Richards emphasized the need of power-hitting by delivering an amazing inning. Richard led West Indies to an unforgettable Test victory over India at Kingston’s Sabina Park by scoring 61 runs on 36 balls on this day (February 28, 1983).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

West Indies took a four-wicket victory in that contest based on Richards’ abundant second innings batting. India was in the West Indies for a five-match Test series, and the hosts dazzled in the first game at Kingston Jamaica to carry the match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

India batted first and managed 251 runs in first inning. Off 270 deliveries, Yashpal Sharma hit 63 runs. Batting at number 9, Balwinder Sandhu’s unforeseen 68-run innings helped the visitors to reach beyond the 200-run mark. Sandhu and Sharma had a 131-run eighth wicket partnership via their sewing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Andy Roberts 3 caught in first innings. Three more two-wickets apiece fell from the Western Caribbean front: Michael Holding, Joel Garner, and Malcolm Marshall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The West Indies answered with 254. Opening batsman for the West Indies Gordon Greenidge came out the top runs scorer for his side with a 70-run hit off 249 deliveries. Several different West Indies batters started well but failed to turn it into a large score.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

India began their second innings at the end of day three trailing by only three runs and 3-81 runs with three wickets down. Weather-related circumstances washed off day four.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

India’s batting order collapsed in the second inning. Bundled at 173, the hosts were sent off meant to chase a 171 total from a score of 112 for four.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

West Indies began a quick attack with a view to win. Vivian Richards hit four sixes and five fours to score 61 off 36 balls as he came down to bat at 65 for 2 before being dismissed by Mohinder Amarnath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
