Sourav Ganguly, who used to captain India, said he’s kind of puzzled by how Rohit Sharma has been playing in Test matches for the past four or five years. Ganguly thinks Rohit has the skill to play a lot better than he has been.

India played ten Test matches over five months against Bangladesh, New Zealand, and Australia, but they only won three of them.

Ganguly said he’s worried about Rohit Sharma’s red-ball cricket performance, which hasn’t been great recently.

I’m surprised by his red ball form over the last four or five years. Someone with his talent should be doing better. He needs to think hard because we have five Test matches against England coming up, and that will be another tough series, Ganguly told RevSportz.

It’ll be like it was in Australia, with the ball moving around a lot. India needs him to do well in red-ball cricket. But when it comes to white-ball cricket, he’s one of the best ever, Ganguly mentioned.

After India won the Champions Trophy, Rohit seems like even more of a leader. So, it wouldn’t be shocking if he goes to England as the team’s captain, even though Ajit Agarkar and his team haven’t decided yet about the Test tour that starts on June 20.

Reports say that not everyone agrees that Rohit should automatically be the captain. Also, Jasprit Bumrah, who’s a great Indian fast bowler, might not be fit enough to play. Plus, there aren’t many obvious choices for captain among the younger Indian players.

Rohit was feeling the pressure to do well in the Champions Trophy because India lost a series to Australia 3-1, which made his poor form even more obvious. But winning in Dubai has given the captain some relief and freedom.

But it makes you wonder if Agarkar and his team will think about Rohit’s ODI success when they’re deciding about the more challenging Test matches, where he hasn’t been doing so great lately.

Rohit has scored 524 runs in seven Test matches in England, averaging 40.3, but he only has one century to his name.
