Devajit Saikia, the BCCI secretary, cleared things up about Nitin Patel, who leads their Sports Science and Medical team. Turns out, he didn’t quit. They actually asked him to stay on for three more months. Nitin’s been working with the Indian men’s cricket team for almost three years, and his contract finished at the end of 2024.

Even though there were stories about Nitin resigning, Saikia says the board wanted him to stick around.

Right now, the BCCI is searching for someone to take Nitin’s place since he said he can’t continue because of personal reasons.

Saikia told The Times of India, The media got it wrong. Patel didn’t quit. His contract ended on December 31, 2024. We asked him to stay for another three months, and he agreed. So, he’ll be done by March 31, 2025.

He added, We’re trying to find a replacement. We’re talking to a few people. We wanted Nitin to stay, but he has a urgent family matter, so we’ll find someone else.

PTI reported earlier that the BCCI’s Center of Excellence is moving on without Nitin since he resigned, according to a BCCI source.

The source said, Yes, Nitin quit as head of the Sports Science and Medical Team. He did a great job, especially setting up the Sports Science and Medical team. Whenever an injured player had rehab, they came back better than ever. Nitin’s family lives overseas, and running the COE’s sports science and medical division is a full-time job.

During his time, Nitin was in charge of rehab for top Indian cricketers like Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and KL Rahul.
