Punjab Kings are probably the most under performing side in the history of the Indian Premier League. They have been part of this league since 2008 and have made it to the playoffs only twice. PBKS made it to the playoffs last time in 2014, and in the last ten seasons, they haven’t qualified to the playoffs. So what will be the strategy of the franchise in the IPL 2025?
The first thing they need to do is to pick a good team. There is a mega auction scheduled ahead of the IPL 2025, and every IPL team can only retain a set of 4 players. All of all franchises, PBKS might need to think much. Some reports confirmed that the franchise isn’t looking to retain much, so they need not worry much. Hence, we will talk about the possible retentions ahead of the IPL 2025.
PBKS IPL 2025 Retained Players list
Four players whom PBKS can retain ahead of the IPL 2025 auction
1. Arshdeep Singh
The left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh is the key bowler for India in the shorter format. His success at the international level will also make an impact on his IPL career with PBKS. The franchise groomed him, and now he is one of the best. Arshdeep’s contribution in the T20 World Cup 2024 was a key to India winning the tournament. He took 19 wickets in 2024, and he will be a sureshot retention for PBKS.

2. Shashank Singh
The 32-year-old uncapped Indian star Shashank Singh impressed everyone with his maturity. He was picked at the auction for a price of INR 20 lakh, but his performance was better than many. He scored 354 runs in 14 innings at an average of 44.25 and a strike rate of 164.65, with two half-centuries. So, he can be one retention for PBKS for the IPL 2025.
3. Prabhsimran Singh or Ashutosh Sharma
The wicketkeeper batter Prabhsimran Singh can be one surprise retention. He has been pretty good with the team in the last two seasons. He scored 334 runs in 14 innings at a strike rate of 156.80. Prabhsimran gives you the option of wicketkeeping and opening batter. That can be one reason that he can be retained.
If not, then Ashutosh Sharma can be a good pick. The uncapped star was impressive with his ability to score runs in crunch matches. He played some useful innings, and his 61-run knock against MI was special. So, there are chances that he can be retained by the franchise.

4. Sam Curran
PBKS needs someone to captain the side and Shikhar Dhawan might not be active for another three seasons. So PBKS might release Dhawan. So, there is an option of Sam Curran, who led the team in Dhawan’s absence in last two seasons. The English all-rounder scored 270 runs with the bat and took 16 wickets in the ball. So, he can lead the team in IPL 2025. But one thing that can go against him is his price tag. PBKS signed him at a price of INR 18.5 crore and if they release him, they can get him back at a cheaper price.
