The 10th edition of the T20 World Cup will be played in February 2026. India, the co-hosts alongside Sri Lanka, are the defending champions, having won the 2024 edition. At this point, the venues are yet to be decided but one thing is certain. The venues that will be used for the upcoming Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 won’t be used for the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
Eight teams had qualified for the 10th edition as they qualified for the Super Eight. Defending champions, India, finalists South Africa, semifinalists Afghanistan and England, and other teams such as West Indies, Bangladesh, Australia, and USA directly qualified for the tournament. Sri Lanka, who exited after the first round in 2024, have qualified because of their status as hosts. More teams have qualified through regional finals.
Canada, who made their T20 WC debut in 2024, have made it to the showpiece event of 2026 via Americas Regional Finals. On the other hand, teams such as Netherlands and Italy from Europe finals. Italy are making their ICC tournament at a time when their national football side is uncertain about qualifying for the FIFA World Cup 2026. The Dutch side participated in the 2024 edition.
Pakistan, Ireland and New Zealand, who failed to make it to the Super Eight, were given byes thanks to their ICC rankings. Now, 13 teams have qualified for the World Cup while seven spots are left. Africa Region teams and Asia Pacific teams will fill the seven slots. The regional finals will be played in October this year.
T20 World Cup 2026 Format
Talking about the format of the tournament, 20 teams will be divided into four groups of five each. This means that the 2024 format will be followed. The top two teams from every Group will qualify for the Super Eight, followed by the semis and the finals. The schedule of the tournament will be announced when the teams are finalised.
