After crowning India as champions in June 2024, the T20 World Cup will return after two years. The International Cricket Council (ICC) will organise the next T20 World Cup in 2026.
And the global governing body has already revealed the hosts for the tournament along with the qualification of teams.
So here are all the details about the host countries, stadiums, and qualified teams for the T20 World Cup 2026.
Who are the hosts for the T20 World Cup 2026?
The last edition of the 20-over event took place in the West Indies and the USA. Now the tournament will be back in the Asian subcontinent.
Current champions, India, will co-host the T20 World Cup 2026 along with Sri Lanka. Both countries will stage the thrilling competition in October and November 2026.
It was back in 2012 that Sri Lanka hosted the 20-over event, while India did so in 2016. India was also the host for the 2021 edition, but the tournament took place in the UAE and Oman due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
Which stadiums will host the T20 World Cup 2026 matches?
Since India and Sri Lanka are co-hosting the tournament, stadiums from both nations will stage some matches. India has several stadiums that can host these matches, but select venues will get the go-ahead.
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, has a handful of venues, which will get a direct nod. As many as 13 venues across both countries can host the T20 World Cup.
Here are the 10 prominent stadiums from India:
- Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi
- Bharat Ratna Sri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow
- Eden Gardens, Kolkata
- Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala
- M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru
- MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai
- Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune
- Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad
- Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad
- Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai
These are the three venues from Sri Lanka:
- Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Kandy
- Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, Dambulla
- R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo
Which teams have qualified for the T20 World Cup 2026?
Like the previous edition, 20 teams will qualify for the main event. Thus far, 12 teams have qualified for the T20 World Cup 2026.
Since India and Sri Lanka are the co-hosts, they have directly booked their slots. Seven teams made it to the main draw after reaching the Super Eight stage in the 2024 edition.
The seven teams are Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, South Africa, the West Indies, and the USA.
The other three teams – Pakistan, New Zealand, and Ireland – made the cut thanks to their better standings in the ICC T20I rankings. All three teams failed to secure a spot in the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup 2024.
Now the remaining eight teams will be determined through regional qualifiers in 2025. Three teams from combined Asia and East Asia-Pacific, two each from Africa and Europe, and one from the Americas qualifiers will advance to the T20 World Cup 2026.
