In their first match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025, played on Saturday, February 15, the Mumbai Indians will play against the Delhi Capitals at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara. The inaugural champions enter the competition as one of the favorites for the title.
The Harmanpreet Kaur-led squad had some big additions through the WPL 2025 auction earlier this year to beef up their already well-stocked arsenal of talents. Their path during last season’s Playoffs ran out against Smriti Mandhana’s Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Eliminator.
On the other side, the Delhi Capitals have reached the final in each of the last two editions of the WPL, although without any trophy to show for it. They were defeated by MI in 2023 in the playoff stages, then saw their dream run come to an end against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru last season. Meg Lanning of Australia will captain the two-time finalists for the third consecutive WPL, after assuming leadership in the first season.
DC have retained the mainstay of their team which guided them into the final last year, including the likes of Jemimah Rodrigues and Shafali Varma. The two-time finalists are also one of the favorites to win the franchise tournament this season.
