Daren Sammy, the head coach of the St Lucia Kings, has announced that David Wiese will be the captain of the team in the 2025 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL). The St Lucia Kings are the current CPL champions.
Sammy made the announcement in a video message on social media. He also has a stadium named after him. He said Wiese would be the captain before the team’s first match on August 23 in Gros Islet.
Wiese is taking over as captain because Faf du Plessis, the South African batter, has opted out of CPL 2025 due to personal reasons. Du Plessis was the captain who led the St Lucia Kings to their first title in 2024. They beat the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the final.
Sammy told St. Lucia Kings fans that the CPL 2025 season is almost here. He said David Wiese will lead their title defence in 2025. Sammy said Wiese is like family to the team and has played with them for many years. He also said Wiese has performed very well over the years and they can’t wait for their first home game.
Wiese is known for his strong batting and skillful seam bowling. He has been good for the Kings in recent seasons. He was very important to their title win in 2024. His experience and calm leadership has made him a popular player and a respected member of the team.
