When asked about who’s gonna win the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah chose the top four teams that he seems to be battling in the World Cup semi-finals which includes the hosting teams West Indies, India, Australia, and New Zealand.based on their consistent performances in the T20 format.
While Shah didn’t explicitly mention England and Pakistan, both finalists from the 2022 edition, the upcoming tournament presents a fresh opportunity for all teams to showcase their skills. Notably, Pakistan will kick off their campaign against the USA before locking horns with India, while England faces a challenging group stage encounter with their neighbors Scotland and a rematch against Australia.
Hardik Pandya and IPL Performance impact on selection of Indian Squad
Addressing concerns about Hardik Pandya’s inclusion in the T20 World Cup squad, BCCI secretary Jay Shah clarified that selection wasn’t solely based on IPL 2024 performance. While Pandya’s recent form hasn’t been ideal (200 runs in 13 matches, 11 wickets at 10.59 economy), the decision focused on addressing a specific team need.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah expressed a ray of optimism about the chances of India in the upcoming T20 World Cup, looking to bounce back from the narrow defeat in the 2023 ODI World Cup final.
He expressed that “we have learned a lot from our last World Cup and are determined to go beyond all the way this time to improve our winning chances” and will definitely bring Bring Home The T20 World Cup Trophy.
He also elaborated on the division of responsibilities within the BCCI. Shah described Roger Binny, the BCCI President, as the “cricketing brain” who plays a key role in cricketing decisions and he has taken on the finance and administrative department.
“We have a clear division of labor, but ultimately, everything is done collaboratively,” Shah emphasized. “Our process is transparent and consultative.”
