Recently, Virat Kohli said Test cricket is way above the IPL and Bumrah took note of it and said young players should give Test cricket a shot. During a chat on SKY Sports, Dinesh Karthik asked Bumrah if young fast bowlers weren’t interested in Test matches anymore. Bumrah said sometimes it’s better for players to skip Test cricket if their bodies can’t handle the demands of it.
It’s really up to each person. I get where they’re coming from. There’s only so long you can play and they need to think about their health and earning a living. If someone can’t manage playing Test matches but still wants to be part of the game, sometimes that’s a smart choice, said Bumrah. He said he respects everyone’s decisions but to him Test cricket is where it’s at. He believes excelling in this format earns you respect worldwide.

Everyone’s different. Test cricket was the gold standard for me growing up. That’s how I measure myself. Sure, now there’s T20 and leagues and things have changed. You can’t judge players based on old standards. Yes, Test cricket is the purest form but everyone has their path, he added.
Bumrah said more players should get into Test cricket for the respect it brings. As Kohli said, you’ll earn respect around the world playing this format. If that’s what drives you, then this is the way to go. For those who prefer fast paced play, T20 and ODIs are the better options, he said.
