The Lucknow Super Giants just took a big step forward by beating the Mumbai Indians for the sixth time in their last seven matchups. On Thursday night, they pulled off a solid 12-run victory, adding to their wins this season and bumping them up to sixth place on the points table.
After the game, LSG’s head coach, Justin Langer, was in high spirits, and it really showed during his chat with the media. At one point, while answering a question about fast bowler Mayank Yadav’s fitness, a reporter’s phone started ringing on the desk. Langer didn’t miss a beat and jokingly asked, “Whose mum is calling?” His light-heartedness was infectious and really reflected how pleased he was with his team’s performance.
It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster for LSG lately. Earlier this week, they lost their first home game in the IPL 2025 against the Punjab Kings, which was a tough pill to swallow. After that loss, Zaheer Khan, their mentor, expressed some concerns about the pitch, saying it didn’t play to their strengths.
But Friday night’s win surely changed the mood around the team. They managed to score 203 runs and kept MI down to 191, marking their second win out of four matches this season. Langer also addressed the pitch issue, and his take was different from Khan’s. He said, “Honestly, both pitches here have been great for the last couple of years. After the last game, there was some emotion about the pitch. But I’ve really liked coaching here. It’s nice to see some variation in how the games go. It’s probably best if we don’t dwell too much on the pitch issues.”
All in all, Friday’s game was a good bounce back for the Super Giants, and the team is likely feeling more upbeat as they look ahead in the tournament. Langer’s humor and confidence might just be what they need to keep building momentum as the season progresses.
