Virat Kohli has stirred the cricketing world with an emotional declaration ahead of India’s next big 50-over campaign, stating that the 2027 ODI World Cup will be the last one he plays for the country. The star batter said he is willing to put everything on the line — his fitness, his form, and his focus — to help India lift the coveted trophy one final time in whites-turned-blue colours of glory.
Speaking about his mindset heading into the tournament, Kohli made it clear that this isn’t just another World Cup for him but a mission he wants to complete with full commitment. CricketBuzz understands that the veteran has been working closely with the team management on a long-term fitness and workload plan to ensure he peaks at the right time for the marquee event.
Rohit Sharma Outlines the Road Ahead
Captain Rohit Sharma, who has often spoken alongside Kohli about India’s World Cup ambitions, also shed light on his own roadmap for the coming years. Rohit indicated that the team’s focus will now shift towards building a balanced squad, blending experience with emerging talent, so that India enters 2027 as one of the strongest contenders. He emphasised that senior players like himself and Kohli still have a crucial role to play in mentoring the next generation.
As CricketBuzz reported earlier this year, the Indian team management has been keen on ensuring a smooth transition period without losing the experience that champions like Kohli and Rohit bring to big-stage matches. Fans across the country have reacted with a mix of nostalgia and excitement to Kohli’s statement, viewing it as the beginning of a farewell chapter for one of the game’s greatest modern batters.
With the 2027 World Cup still some time away, both players have plenty of cricket left to prove their worth. But Kohli’s heartfelt admission has added a fresh layer of emotion to India’s ODI journey. Stay with CricketBuzz for more updates as this story develops in the coming months.
