Kuldeep Yadav is standing at the threshold of a rare milestone in Indian cricket. The wrist-spinner currently has 198 ODI wickets to his name, and just two more scalps will see him enter an exclusive club of Indian spin bowlers who have crossed the 200-wicket mark in the format. As CricketBuzz reported earlier this season, Kuldeep’s returning form has been one of the standout stories for India’s white-ball setup.
The list of Indian spinners to have achieved this feat is remarkably short. Legendary leg-spinner Anil Kumble leads the way with a staggering 334 ODI wickets, followed by off-spinner Harbhajan Singh with 265. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, still an active member of India’s squad, sits third with 232 scalps. Should Kuldeep get over the line, he would become only the fourth Indian spinner in history to reach this landmark, underlining just how difficult sustained success in ODI cricket has been for slow bowlers.
A Rare Fraternity of Indian Spin Wizards
What makes Kuldeep’s achievement significant is the manner of his comeback. After battling injuries and loss of form in the past, the left-arm chinaman bowler has rebuilt his game with sharper variations and improved control, becoming a genuine matchwinner again. CricketBuzz understands that team management views him as a crucial weapon in home conditions and on turning tracks overseas, especially with ICC events on the horizon.
With India’s upcoming ODI assignments offering him fresh opportunities, it may only be a matter of time before Kuldeep completes the milestone. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see if he can add his name alongside Kumble, Harbhajan and Jadeja in the record books.
