Former coach of India Ravi Shastri said that star batter Sai Sudharsan has the potential to make it big across all formats of cricket. He feels that Sudharsan is a player of potential and will keep a close watch on him for a place in the England tour after the IPL in 2025. Post a 3-1 series loss in Australia at the beginning of 2025 many are calling for new changes to the Test team before the big event in England.
During a discussion on the latest episode of ICC Review, Shastri told that his interest is to include Sudharsan in the Indian Test squad for the next series after he proved himself in IPL 2025 as he said “I see this young man Sai Sudharsan as a player for all formats. So, definitely he’s got that class, and I will keep an eye on him.”
He being a left-hander who knows very well how to handle English conditions according to technique, I do think makes him a top contender outside of current squad.
In the last two years, Sudharsan has also been gaining good experience with Surrey in the County Championship. Moreover, Shastri does not wish to have a single left-arm pacer for the conditions of England but prefers a combination of said left-arm pacer, by mentioning Arshdeep Singh-the name Shastri mentions- who can also perform in red-ball games and is not limited to just white-ball.
Looking for a left-armer in good form to fit in as sixth bowler range-finder does. This is achievable only with putting him at any position available white-ball specialist is another possibility here.” He adds that he does not believe in calling anyone a ‘white-ball specialist’, so he will also keep an eye on Arshdeep’s red-ball performances.
Arshdeep is quite good in first-class cricket, having taken 66 wickets in 21 matches. India will tour England for their second five-Test series, starting at Headingley Carnegie on June 20.
