During the 2025 CPL match between Antigua and Barbuda Falcons and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots at the Sir Viv Richards Stadium in Antigua, Shakib Al Hasan was the star of the show. He achieved a historic feat.

Shakib’s bowling was economical, he took 3 wickets for 11 runs in 2 overs and then scored 25 off 18 with the bat. The Falcons chased down 137 and won by 7 wickets with 2 balls to spare. He was the Man of the Match.

This was Shakib’s 44th Man of the Match award in T20s, equal to Andre Russell. Only a few players in men’s T20 cricket have won the award more than 40 times, Shakib is in elite company.
500 wickets and 7000 run club
His 3 wickets in the match also meant he reached 500 wickets in T20 cricket. He is one of only 5 bowlers to achieve this feat, along with Rashid Khan, Dwayne Bravo, Sunil Narine and Imran Tahir. Shakib is the first left-arm spinner to get to 500 T20 wickets, a big margin ahead of Imad Wasim (376).
But that’s not all. He is the first player to reach 500 wickets and 7000 runs in T20 cricket. Dwayne Bravo was close before he retired and Andre Russell is moving towards this milestone.
2500 T20 runs and 149 wickets in international cricket
In international T20s, Shakib is alone. He is the only player with over 100 wickets and over 2500 runs. Before his T20I retirement after the 2024 T20 World Cup, he played 129 matches for Bangladesh, took 149 wickets and scored 2551 runs. No other player has taken over 100 wickets and 1000 runs in T20Is.Shakib’s T20I record is 149 wickets at 20.91. He is one of the top 5 wicket takers in T20I history. As a left-arm spinner, he holds the record for most wickets (50) in T20 World Cup in 43 matches at 20.12. In BPL he has 149 wickets at 18.26. In IPL he has 63 wickets at 29.19, the only other T20 league where he has taken more than 50 wickets.

Adding to his T20 records, Shakib has 9 Player of the Series awards, the most by any player. He is ahead of Virat Kohli (8) and Wanindu Hasaranga (7). Among spinners, Shakib has the most five-wicket hauls in T20s, 5. Overall he is tied 2nd with Lasith Malinga, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Imran Tahir and Shaheen Shah Afridi, behind David Wiese (7).
