Sunil Narine, the legendary all-rounder from the West Indies, is back in action with the Kolkata Knight Riders for IPL 2025. On March 22, during the first match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Eden Gardens, he joined Andre Russell in a special club of players who have hit over 100 sixes in the tournament. Narine opened the batting and scored 44 runs off 26 balls, including five fours and three sixes.
His third six, which he hit on the fifth ball of the 10th over, brought his total to 100 sixes for KKR. He’s now the third player to reach this milestone, following Russell with 206 and Nitish Rana with 107.
Here’s the list of most sixes for KKR:
Player | Sixes |
---|---|
Andre Russell | 206 |
Nitish Rana | 107 |
Sunil Narine | 100 |
Robin Uthappa | 85 |
Yusuf Pathan | 85 |
Narine made his IPL debut in 2012 under Gautam Gambhir’s captaincy and had a standout season last year. He was KKR’s top run scorer and played a key role in helping the team secure their third IPL title. For his impressive performances in the 2024 season, he was named Most Valuable Player and was kept on by the team before the IPL 2025 auction.
In the opening match of the new season, Narine partnered with captain Ajinkya Rahane to add 103 runs for the second wicket. Rahane, who came in at No. 3 after Quinton de Kock was out for just four runs, settled in quickly and reached his fifty in just 25 balls. Unfortunately, he got out to Krunal Pandya in the 11th over.
