Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) team has added the fast bowler, Gerald Coetzee from South Africa, into its lineup to replace David Payne, who is currently out due to an injury, as the team plays in the current TATA IPL 2026.
English left-arm bowler, Payne, played only two games for SRH and managed to take two wickets before he had to sit out the rest of the tournament due to a problem with his ankle. The loss of this bowler will certainly be felt in the last overs of the innings.
Enter Gerald Coetzee, a 25-year-old right-arm quick with a reputation for raw pace and aggression. The Proteas star boasts an impressive international resume: 4 Tests, 14 ODIs, and 18 T20Is, amassing 67 wickets. In the IPL, Coetzee has already proven his mettle, picking 15 wickets in 14 games across stints with Gujarat Titans (GT) and Mumbai Indians (MI). Known for clocking 140+ kph deliveries and excelling in the powerplay and death overs, he could slot seamlessly into SRH’s high-octane lineup led by Pat Cummins.
SRH franchise has signed Coetzee at their base price of INR 2 Crore, which is an excellent choice considering the expertise he has shown while playing in T20 cricket. Coetzee’s capacity to produce bounce in Indian conditions fits right into SRH’s plan of explosive batting and aggressive bowling. With IPL 2026 playoffs approaching, Coetzee’s aggressive performances can be instrumental in clinching the match.
