On Tuesday, the Pakistani selectors included uncapped left-arm pacer Akif Javed in the national side to substitute the ailing Haris Rauf for the remaining matches of the ongoing tri-series.
Javed is a replacement for the Wednesday tri-series match against South Africa, according to a statement by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
If Pakistan win this game, they will go to play New Zealand in the final on 14 February.
PCB confirms that Haris has been advised rest after sustaining a strain in lower chest wall in the match against New Zealand on Saturday.
“The replacement is only for the tri-nation ODI series; Haris Rauf is expected to be back to full fitness with the target of being selected for the ICC Champions Trophy,” said PCB in a release.
The pacer Akif was already playing in the Bangladesh Premier League and plays for Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League.
However, his exposure and very limited performances in first-class and 50 overs matches.
