The short and exciting Hong Kong Cricket Sixes is making a comeback after 7 years. And India will also return to the competition after a hiatus of 12 years.
On October 12, 2024, Cricket Hong Kong revealed India’s 7-member squad, with former keeper-batter Robin Uthappa leading the team.
The Indian squad is filled with experienced players who have left their mark in international and league cricket. Uthappa will have the company of Bharat Chipli, Kedar Jadhav, Manoj Tiwary, Shahbaz Nadeem, Shreevats Goswami, and Stuart Binny.
With a strong and experienced squad, the Men in Blue will aim to topple other teams and lay their hands on the coveted trophy.
The six-a-side tournament will be a three-day affair, with matches played between November 1 and 3. Team India will open its campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on November 1, followed by their second league match against the UAE the next day.
In all, 12 teams will participate in the 20th edition of the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes. All matches will take place at the Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground.
South Africa are the defending champions, having won the tournament in 2017.
India’s Performance at Hong Kong Cricket Sixes
India has reached the final of the tournament twice, in 1996 and 2005. They ended up as runners-up in 1996 but went on to claim the whole thing in 2005 under the captaincy of Robin Singh.
Many prominent Indian players like Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Anil Kumble, Dinesh Karthik, Manish Pandey, and Mayank Agarwal have featured in this competition.
