After thrilling action over two weeks, the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024 is coming to a close. The domestic T20 tournament has entered its knockout stage, with the pre-quarterfinals wrapped up on December 9.
Bengal and Uttar Pradesh have further proceeded to the quarter-finals by beating Chandigarh and Andhra, respectively. The four quarter-finals will now take place on December 11, followed by semi-finals and the final.

SMAT 2024: Journey to the Knockouts
Madhya Pradesh: MP finished as the toppers from Group A. They accumulated 24 points by winning six games. MP lost only one game after winning four games on the bounce and added two more victories.
Baroda: Led by Krunal Pandya and boosted by the presence of his brother, Hardik, Baroda grabbed the top spot in Group B. They also started with four wins in a row before going down to Saurashtra in the fifth game. But Baroda won the next two matches to end up with 24 points.
Delhi: Hailing from India’s capital, Delhi went a step further, winning five consecutive matches. They lost their sixth tie but bounced back quickly to register a 10-wicket victory over Arunachal Pradesh in their last match. Delhi bagged 24 points to sit at the top of Group C.
Vidarbha: Group D witnessed close fights between teams, with the weather also playing spoilsport. Despite that, Vidarbha emerged as the table topper with 18 points. They won four matches and lost one, while one match was abandoned.
Mumbai: The powerhouse of Indian cricket, Mumbai made it straight to the quarter-finals after topping Group E. They finished with 20 points, with five wins out of six games.
Saurashtra: They were the second-best team from Group B. Saurashtra started their campaign with a win and a loss before emerging victorious in their next five games. They earned 24 points to seal a berth in the quarter-finals.
Bengal: With their pace battery strengthened by Mohammed Shami’s presence, Bengal challenged their opponents with full force. They won six out of their seven matches to end up with 24 points.
Bengal tussled with MP for a quarter-final slot, but since they lost their group stage match against them, they had to settle on a pre-quarterfinal spot. In the first pre-quarterfinal, they overcame Chandigarh by three wickets.
Uttar Pradesh: UP made it to the pre-quarterfinals after finishing second in Group C. They managed to win five games out of their seven, earning 20 points. UP defeated Andhra in the second pre-quarterfinal to enter the quarter-finals.

SMAT 2024: Quarter-Finals
After a rigorous league stage and pre-quarterfinals, eight teams have made it to the quarter-finals.
Group B toppers Baroda will take on Bengal in the first quarter-final in Bengaluru at 11 AM. The second quarter-final will pit Group C toppers Delhi against Uttar Pradesh at the same venue in the evening.
The third quarter-final will see Madhya Pradesh trying to put a stop to Saurashtra’s five back-to-back wins. And the remaining quarter-final will see the Maharashtra Derby as Mumbai square off against Vidarbha. Both the above games will take place in Alur.
SMAT 2024: Semi-Finals
The winners of the four quarter-finals will cruise into the semis scheduled for December 13 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
The first semi-final will take place in the morning at 11 AM, followed by the second in the evening at 4:30 PM.

SMAT 2024: Final
The two best teams from the tournament will then clash for the title. The two semi-final winners will go head-on in the final slated for December 15 in Bengaluru.
