Indian spinner Varun Chakravarthy continued his impressive run in international cricket, claiming Kuldeep Yadav’s record for most scalps by an Indian spinner in ten T20I games. Chakravarthy has, since his return to the T20I set-up in 2021, fairly established himself, shining in the third T20I with excellent figures of 5/24; among the notable wickets were his skipper Jos Buttler, Jamie Smith, Jamie Overton, Brydon Carse, and Jofra Archer. England was further derailed from winning with the score dwindling from 83/1 to 127/8.
Having returned to T20I matches again last year, Chakravarthy had played in 10 matches, yielding 27 wickets at an average of 10.96 and an economy rate of 7.40 with the best bowling figures of 5/17. After 16 matches in his T20I career, Chakravarthy now holds the record of 29 wickets at an average of 14.65 with an economy rate of 6.84 in one of the latest feats.
Chakravarthy’s five-wicket haul made him the fastest to get to 10 wickets in the series. He is the first player to take 10 wickets in a bilateral T20I series between India and England.

Now, with that Chakravarty smashes past Kuldeep Yadav (25 scalps) to become the spinner with most wickets taken by an Indian in the ten-game run in T20Is. Internationally he is behind Malaysia’s Syazrul Idrus (28) and Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan (30).
The match began with India winning the toss and choosing to bowl first. Though there was a brilliant partnership of 76 runs between Ben Duckett (51 in 28 balls, with seven fours and two sixes) and captain Jos Buttler (24 in 22 balls, with a four and six), there was no reprieve for England, with wickets falling regularly to spin. A fighting 43 off 28 deliveries from Liam Livingstone (who hit one four and five sixes) could help England only to 171/9 in their allotted 20 overs.
