The India captain Rohit Sharma achieved much of what he wanted during the India vs Pakistan Champions T20 trophy 2025 clash at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, February 23. Joining an elite list of Indians that only includes Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly, he has set quite a few records for himself.
Rohit is also the third Indian opener to score 9000 runs in ODI cricket. He was going into the battle against Pakistan with 8999 runs, having reached the milestone in just the second ball of the 242-run chase against them. He went onto Registry his 9000 with a clip past backward square leg off Shaheen Afridi.
Rohit’s spell came to an end on 20 after being bowled clean by Shaheen Afridi off a delivery that swung and seamed in just like the one he delivered in the T20 World Cup 2021. The Indian skipper scored 41 runs in the previous match against Bangladesh, wherein he had touched the 11000-run mark in ODI cricket, becoming the second fastest after Virat Kohli to get to that number.
Players with most runs as opener in ODI cricket:

In the India vs Pakistan clash, the Men in Green set a target of 242 runs to India in the high-voltage game in Dubai. Men in Green must win, as a loss to India will knock them out.
The third wicket stand of 104 runs was hoped to salvage for Pakistan after the loss of two early wickets by opener Saud Shakeel and Muhammad Rizwan. Shakeel scored the most runs with 62 off 76 balls.
Rizwan played slow for 46 off 77 balls, looking to play the anchor role. However, his innings is under fire regarding strike rate. On the other hand Khushdil Shah played a phenomenal cameo scoring 38 runs of 39 deliveries helping pakistan to cross 240 run mark.
