India vs Sri Lanka 2024 ODI Series Squad (Players List)
Rohit Sharma (Captain)
The Indian captain has made himself available for the Sri Lanka ODIs, and he will be leading the team in the 50-over format. Rohit has been at his best at the top of the order, which we saw in the ODI World Cup 2023 and T20 World Cup 2024. Rohit played the last ODI against Australia in November 2023. India are preparing for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, and Rohit is an important part of that.
Shubman Gill (Vice Captain)
Star opener Shubman Gill will assist Rohit as the vice captain. The 24-year-old is in fine form and recently finished the five-match T20 series against Zimbabwe as the highest scorer. Gill is an important part of the ODIs, which is why he has been given the vice-captaincy role.
Virat Kohli (Batter)
The former Indian captain, Virat Kohli, requested a break from the Sri Lanka tour. But after Gautam Gambhir’s request, he made himself available, and now he is part of the ODI squad. Just like Rohit, the former Indian captain hasn’t played ODI since the ODI World Cup 2023 final, and India want him to get into good form for the coming Champions Trophy 2025.
Shreyas Iyer (Batter)
Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were sacked from the central contract a few months ago. But as Gambhir becomes the coach, Iyer is also back in the Indian team. Well, this is a good sign for the Indian batter and his future with the team. He had a remarkable ODI World Cup 2023, and he will be a vital cog of the Indian middle order in the Sri Lanka ODIs.
KL Rahul (Wicketkeeper)
KL Rahul was dropped from India’s T20I squad for the T20 World Cup 2024. But now he is back in the ODI format. He is likely to be the first-choice keeper and an important batter in the middle order. Rahul had a fantastic ODI World Cup 2023 with the bat, and he will look to keep his good form in the coming ODI series against Sri Lanka.
Rishabh Pant (Wicket-keeper)
Rishabh Pant played his last ODI match in November 2022 against New Zealand. But he was out of action for 14-16 after his accident and made his comeback for India in the T20 World Cup 2024. He had a decent performance for India in the tournament. But with Rahul in the team, Pant needs to show good form to prove his worth in the playing XI.
Axar Patel (All-rounder)
India dropped Ravindra Jadeja from the IND vs SL ODI series, which means they want to give more chances to Axar Patel. The all-rounder had a superb time with bat and ball in India’s recent T20I triump. That has certainly increased the trust of management in him, and he is likely to stick with India’s white-ball squad regularly. It will be a test for him in ODIs, and he has yet to prove his batting skills in ODIs. So, this will be a great series for Axar.
Washington Sundar (All-rounder)
Washington Sundar made his ODI debut in 2017, but he has only played 19 ODIs so far in 7 years. But with India looking to build a new team, Sundar is a perfect guy because he is still young and adds value in all three departments. He gives the option of off-spin and is coming off a Player of the Series performance against Zimbabwe. So he is in form, and India will look to use his form more.
Shivam Dube (All-rounder)
Hardik Pandya has been rested from the IND vs SL ODIs, and India needed a seam-bowling all-rounder; that’s why they have picked Shivam Dube in the squad. Dube is coming off decent T20I form, but his bowling will be tested. He is a brilliant striker of the spin-bowling, and that can come into play on spin-friendly pitches in Sri Lanka. India will also hope that he can also bowl a bit.
Riyan Parag (All-rounder)
One name that has surprised everyone is Riyan Parag. He made his debut for India in the five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe but didn’t have a great start. He scored 24 runs in two innings and didn’t bowl much. But he has retained his place for the Sri Lanka tour. Though it will be interesting to see whether he gets a chance or not, he is an exciting talent for sure.
Kuldeep Yadav (Spinner)
Kuldeep Yadav is India’s first-choice spinner in the white-ball format, and he will be leading India’s spin attack. Though it is still a surprise why India have not picked him in T20Is, he holds a key in ODIs. The pitch will be helping him more, and with his variations, he can be an ace bowler for India.
Mohammed Siraj (Fast Bowler)
Mohammed Siraj has delivered some exceptional spells against Sri Lanka. his best ODI figure of 6/21 camea against Sri Lanka in the final of Asia Cup 2023 in Colombo. So he will be very confident ahead of the IND vs SL ODIs. He will be the opening bowler for India, and the team will hope that he can give India good starts with the ball in ODIs.
Arshdeep Singh (Fast Bowler)
With Jasprit Bumrah resting for the IND vs SL tour, selectors have picked up Arshdeep Singh as the new ball bowler after his heroics in the T20is. Arshdeep played his last ODI in December 2023, and it will be his first ODI since then. He is in good form and will look to do well in the series to stay in contention for the ODI squad in the coming future.
Khaleel Ahmed (Fast Bowler)
The last ODI match for Khaleel Ahmed was in August 2019, but he will be playing an ODI for India after almost five years. The left-arm pacer had a decent outing with Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2024, which helped him make his comeback in the team. Now he will be playing in ODIs.
Harshit Rana (Fast Bowler)
Harshit Rana has received his maiden ODI call after some good performances for Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2024. He was their second-highest wicket-taker with 17 wickets. Harshit was part of the first two matches for the Zimbabwe T20s but didn’t get a chance to play. But he is picked up for Sri Lanka ODIs, and he will hope to get a game on the tour.
