In the current second India-England Test, Mohammed Siraj was India’s top bowler during the first innings. He bowled 19.3 overs and took six wickets, giving away 70 runs.
Siraj began taking wickets Thursday, when Karun Nair caught Zak Crawley (19) off his bowling. The next morning, he dismissed Joe Root (22) and Ben Stokes (0).
After Harry Brook (158) and Jamie Smith (184*) troubled the Indian bowlers for over 60 overs on Friday (July 4), Siraj came back strong in the last session. He took the final three English wickets—Brydon Carse (0), Josh Tongue (0), and Shoaib Bashir (0)—ending their innings at 407 runs.
Siraj’s six wickets on Friday put him on par with Jasprit Bumrah’s impressive Indian record. Siraj is now the second Indian, after Bumrah, to achieve a five-wicket haul in Test matches played in Australia, England, South Africa, and the West Indies.

Bumrah has four such hauls in Australia, three each in England and South Africa, and two in the West Indies.
Siraj now has one five-wicket haul in each of England, South Africa, the West Indies, and Australia.
Siraj has also taken six wickets in a Test innings in both England and South Africa, making him the first Indian bowler to do so. Bumrah also has a six-wicket haul in South Africa, but has not taken six wickets in a single innings against England in England.
Bumrah is not playing in this second Test against England to manage his workload. But in the first Test at Headingley in Leeds from June 20 to 24, he took five wickets for the team led by Shubman Gill.
