Former wicketkeeper-batter Deep Dasgupta suggests India should consider playing B Sai Sudharsan instead of Karun Nair for the last two Tests against England. He feels Nair is struggling to hold his place at number three.
Nair, back in the Test team after eight years, scored 131 runs in three games. He is the only top-four batter from either team without a half-century in this series.
Sudharsan, who made zero and 30 in his first Test at Leeds, was benched later. India chose batting all-rounder Washington Sundar for the Edgbaston and Lord’s matches.
Dasgupta said on JioHotstar if they make only one change to the Playing XI, it should be Karun Nair for Sai Sudharsan because Nair hasn’t scored many runs. He gets started but can’t turn them into big scores. Dasgupta also said Nair doesn’t look comfortable at the crease and Sudharsan is a young player. He also said if India wants to invest in this England series, it would be better to invest in a younger player like Sai Sudharsan.
