On Monday, August 4, Pakistan won the T20I series against West Indies by 13 runs. Agha Salman led the team in this match. Fakhar Zaman hurt his hamstring in the second T20I and will not be able to play in the ODI series against West Indies.
With Fakhar Zaman out, the team led by Mohammad Rizwan is short an opener. They haven’t announced who will replace him yet. This piece will talk about some possible replacements as the ODI series starts on August 8.
1. Usman Khan
Pakistan already has good openers like Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique. But the PCB might want some other options as well. Usman Khan could be one of them. He opened with Abdullah Shafique in the ODIs against New Zealand not so long ago and scored 51 runs in two games. So Pakistan might bring in Khan to add depth to the team for the West Indies trip.
2. Imam Ul-Haq
Imam Ul-Haq was not considered for ODIs for a while until 2025. He was brought back for the Champions Trophy but only played one game against India and scored 10 runs. Pakistan continued to back him for the New Zealand ODIs but he scored 4 runs in two games. The PCB might give Imam another chance to see if he can improve.

3. Sahibzada Farhan
Pakistan hasn’t played many ODIs lately. So the PCB should bring in players who are performing well in other formats. Sahibzada Farhan is doing very well. He scored 91 runs in the recent series, including 74 off 53 balls in the deciding match. He also had a fifty in the one T20I game he played against Bangladesh. Sahibzada is already in the West Indies with the team and the PCB might ask him to stay and join the ODI team.
