Brad Haddin, the former Australian wicket-keeper, spoke about India’s 2-2 series tie with England. He says India proved they are good without Jasprit Bumrah.
In that five-Test series, India won at Edgbaston and the Oval. Bumrah was rested for both those wins. During his absence, Mohammed Siraj stepped up and won India very important games with some amazing bowling. He changed the game at the Oval, taking 5 wickets. India won by 6 runs and drew the series.
Haddin said Bumrah didn’t win a single Test for India in the England tour.
Talking on the LiSTNR Sport YouTube channel, Haddin said India can learn a lot from this series. They saw they can still perform well without Bumrah. He said if other bowlers can step up, the team can still win. He also said India has a lot of talented players.
Haddin gave a lot of credit to Siraj for taking charge when Bumrah wasn’t playing. He said Siraj loves the big moments and does well under pressure.
Haddin said Siraj seems to enjoy being the main bowler. He’s the kind of player who demands the ball when the game is on the line. Even if he makes mistakes, he’s never afraid to be in those situations. Haddin said having players like that who aren’t afraid of mistakes and can get under the opposition’s skin is very valuable to the team.

Before the series started, Ajit Agarkar, the chief selector, and Gautam Gambhir, the head coach, said Bumrah probably wouldn’t play more than three Tests as they were worried about his workload. Bumrah played in the first Test at Headingley, Leeds, and then in the third and fourth games at Lord’s and Old Trafford, Manchester.
In those three games, Bumrah took 14 wickets, including two 5-fers. He bowled almost 120 overs and went for 26 runs per wicket. Before the fifth Test, he was India’s leading wicket-taker.Siraj played all 5 Tests and finished as the series’ highest wicket-taker with 22 wickets and drew the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2-2.
With Bumrah’s workload being managed, Siraj is a great fast bowling option for India.
