The Asia Cup T20 has thrown up some intense cricket rivalries in the subcontinent. From 2016 to 2022, we saw great batting, tense finishes and new players. But there’s one stat no batter wants: a duck. Getting out for zero, especially in a T20 match, can be a big blow.
Let’s have a look at the players with Most ducks in Asia Cup T20

1. Mashrafe Mortaza (Bangladesh) – 3 Ducks in Asia Cup 2016

At number 1 we have one of the legends of Bangladesh cricket Mashrafe Mortaza, a primary bowler and former captain, batted in all 5 matches in 2016, scoring just 14 runs at an average of 3.50. He had 3 ducks and didn’t make an impact with the bat. He wasn’t expected to score much but his repeated failures showed that Bangladesh’s lower order was weak at that time.
2 Asif Ali (Pakistan) – 2 Ducks in Asia Cup 2022

Next we have Pakistan’s designated finisher at one stage Asif Ali who has 2 ducks in Asia Cup. He’s known for hitting hard late in the innings, had a strike rate of 164.00 and a highest score of 41 but wasn’t consistent. Even though he can be a finisher, his frequent dismissals without scoring made people question if he can handle pressure. His 3 ducks are the most by any player in a single Asia Cup T20 tournament.
3. Charith Asalanka (Sri Lanka) – 2 Ducks in Asia Cup 2022

Sri Lanka’s middle order batter Charith Asalanka did poorly in the 2022 Asia Cup, scoring just 9 runs in 4 innings, 2 ducks. His strike rate of 42.85 and average of 2.25 shows he had a series of bad games. In a tournament Sri Lanka won, Asalanka’s form was one of the few problems in an otherwise good show.
4. Kinchit Shah (Hong Kong) – 2 Ducks across 2016 and 2022

Kinchit Shah, who played for Hong Kong in 2016 and 2022, played 5 matches and scored 65 runs, top score of 30. But he also had 2 ducks. Associate players have a harder time against top teams and Shah’s repeated failures under pressure showed how hard it is to play against top level bowlers
5. Hardik Pandya (India) – 2 Duck across 2016 and 2022

India’s all-rounder Hardik Pandya played in both 2016 and 2022, 6 innings in 8 matches. He had 2 ducks but that’s worth noting because he’s a finisher. He had a good tournament overall, 83 runs at a strike rate of 148.21, even top players can fail sometimes.
6. Kusal Mendis (Sri Lanka) – 2 Ducks but 155 Runs

Kusal Mendis is the most interesting case. He had 2 ducks but was one of the top scorers in 2022, 155 runs in 6 innings at a strike rate of 156.56. His two fifties were match winners for Sri Lanka, proving even after failures a batter can improve and play a match winning role.
