Latest developments say that Ravichandran Ashwin, the now-retired Indian ace, will be involved in the entire BBL 2025 after getting rejected in the ILT20 mega auction. Originally, he had signed a short-term contract with the Sydney Thunder, but following the snub at the auction, the veteran has given his full attention to the Australian franchise league.
Originally, it was planned that he would only be playing a handful of games, but things turned upside down with the auction snub of the spin-bowler, something considered surprising. Unsold in the auction’s first round, R Ashwin then withdrew his name stating that he did not want to play in the league at a lower price.

Ashwin reveals why he pulled out of the ILT20 auction
Ashwin had his ILT20 base price at $120,000, which was the highest amongst all registered players. Yet, to his utter surprise, he went unsold; there was no suitable buyer for him, and so decided to withdraw his name, and now he has revealed the reason for doing so.
“Ashwin said to Cricbuzz, ‘That was the minimum price for me, and I would rather not play at this stage in my career if my value cannot be met.’ So, there was a chance of being called up in the next round, but he did not continue.
“Just before the auction, I almost pulled out because of the Thunder deal. Having said that, since I had already committed to ILT20 that I would go to auction, I honoured my word on entering the auction. On the other hand, I did not agree to lowering my base price,” he said.
It is to be noted that BBL 2025 starts on December 14 and will run through January 25.
