The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) was the biggest and most watched season in IPL history. That tournament had everything, which resulted in a massive success. The five-time champion Chennai Super Kings entered the IPL 2024 as the defending champions. However, ahead of the start of the season, there were a few big changes. MS Dhoni gave his captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad. Hardik Pandya was traded in to Mumbai Indians, and he replaced Rohit Sharma as captain.
Shubman Gill was appointed the GT captain. Mitchell Starc (INR 22.5 crore) and Pat Cummins (20.5 crore) broke all previous records and became most expensive players ever. So, the hype was always there, and the tournament lived up to its expectations and ended with Kolkata Knight Riders winning their third title. The base was set in the very first game of the IPL 2024, which saw a clash between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

First Innings
The match started with the toss, and RCB captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and asked CSK to bowl first. RCB got off to a great start as Du Plessis played a cameo of 35 off 23 balls with 8 fours in it. But as he got out, RCB stumbled. Virat Kohli got out for 21 off 20, while Rajat Patidar and Glenn Maxwell bagged a duck each. Cameron Green also looked rusty for his 22-ball 18.
RCB were in trouble at 78/5 in 11.4 overs and were looking to get all out cheaply. But then came a game-changing partnership between two wicketkeepers. Dines Karthik and Anuj Rawat added a 95-run stand for the sixth wicket off just 50 balls to take the team to a respectable score of 173/6. Karthik scored an unbeaten 38 off 26 while Anuj played a brilliant inning of 48 off 25. For Chennai, Mustafizur Rahman bowled a superb spell of 4/29 to break the backbone of RCB.
RCB – 173/6 in 20 overs
Anuj Rawat – 48 off 25 balls (SR: 192.00), Dinesh Karthik – 38* off 26 (SR: 146.15)
Mustafizur Rahman – 4/29 in 4 overs at 7.25 (Econ: 7.25)
Second Innings
It was a tricky pitch at a slow wicket in Chennai. But CSK had some different plans. Rachin Ravindra, who was making his IPL debut, played a blistering cameo of 37 off 15 balls, with three sixes and three fours. CSK reached 50 in just 5.3 overs, which put them ahead in the chase. Every batter contributed with 20s and 30s, and CSK ended up reaching 176/4 in 18.4 overs to win the IPL 2024 first game and earn two points. Ajinkya Rahan (27 off 19), Shivam Dube (34* off 28), and Ravindra Jadeja (25* off 17) also contributed with the bat. For RCB, Cameron Green took 2/27 while Yash Dayal and Karn Sharma took one wicket each. But it wasn’t enough to contain a strong CSK batting order.
CSK – 176/4 in 18.4 overs (RR: 9.42)
Rachin Ravindra – 37 off 15 balls (SR: 246.66) and Shivam Dube – 34* off 28 (SR: 121.42)
