The ninth edition of the ICC Champions Trophy is returning after more than two decades and the event will be hosted on the ground of Pakistan. Pakistan will be the host country for the ninth edition of the Champions Trophy which is a flagship program of the ICC. ICC gave the rights for the upcoming 2029 champions trophy to the Indian grounds.
The ICC Champions Trophy will take place in Pakistan from February to March 2025. Organized by the International Cricket Council, this One Day International cricket tournament will feature a round-robin and knockout format. There will be 8 teams participating in a total of 15 matches. Pakistan, the reigning champions from the 2017 edition, will defend their title as the Champions Trophy makes its comeback. The tournament, which was put on hold after 2017, is being revived for a new edition.
ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Format
The ninth edition of the ICC Champions Trophy would be the same as the 2017 eighth edition where a total of eight teams would compete in the ODI 50 over format and the teams that would participate would be the ones who are listed in the top 8 ranks of the ICC(International Cricket Council)based on their rankings from the 2023 Cricket World Cup group stage.

The 2025 ICC Champions Trophy will follow a familiar format with two groups of four teams each. The top two teams from each group will move on to the semi-finals. In the knockout stage, the winner of Group 1 will face the runner-up of Group 2, and the winner of Group 2 will play against the runner-up of Group 1 in the semi-finals. The winners of these two semi-final matches will then compete in the final to determine the champion. The exact teams and match details will be announced as the tournament progresses.

ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Venue
The tournament will be hosted on the ground of Pakistan in February 2025 across various venues including one from Islamabad known to be a very “high-tech” cricket stadium. While the other venues are Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi. These are the venues which PCB is planning to host the upcoming ICC Mens Champions trophy. The final of the tournament is expected to take place in Lahore, where almost all of the Indian team’s matches are fixed.
However, due to political unrest and tensions between the two countries India and Pakistan, the venue locations can be altered like the 2023 Cricket World Cup, and can take place in hybrid mode.
The location of the tournament could change, or a mixed approach might be taken. Officials stated, “India faces a difficult decision because the Champions Trophy is an ICC event, but it cannot proceed without government approval. A bilateral event happening soon is very unlikely.” Meanwhile, the PCB is making sure that all preparations, including security and facilities, are top-notch to ensure a successful and memorable cricket experience.

ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Host
Pakistan is the host country for the ICC Champions Trophy, The country will host the matches of the championship on grounds of three locations Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi. Indian team’s matches are fixed on the grounds of Lahore due to some political reasons and it is near to Wagah border which would be a nearby place for Indian fans to visit.
As the host nation, Pakistan automatically qualified for the competition. They were joined by the top seven teams from the group stage of the 2023 Cricket World Cup. Notably, this is the first time that former champions Sri Lanka did not qualify, while Afghanistan will be making their debut in the tournament.
