A century in international cricket is a big deal for any batsman. It requires focus, good technique and ability to handle pressure. Many have scored centuries but only a few have done it across all formats of the game.
Here’s the list of top 10 cricketers who have scored the most centuries in international cricket based on their total scores in Tests, ODIs and T20Is.
1. Sachin Tendulkar – 100 Centuries (India)

Any talk about great batsmen would have to include Sachin Tendulkar. Tendulkar who played for India from 1989 to 2013 is the only cricketer to have scored 100 international centuries – 51 in Tests and 49 in ODIs.
In 664 matches he scored an amazing 34,357 runs with a highest score of 248 not out. More than the stats it was his consistency and composure that made him a loved cricketer.
2. Virat Kohli – 82* Centuries (India)

After Tendulkar, Virat Kohli is the next big thing in modern day batting. Since 2008 he has made 82* centuries in all formats of the game and still going strong.
He has scored over 27,000 runs in 550 matches with an average of over 52 and a highest score of 254 not out. Kohli is an expert in chasing scores especially in ODIs. His fitness and hunger for runs makes him a constant threat to Tendulkar’s record.

3. Ricky Ponting – 71 Centuries (Australia)

Ricky Ponting of Australia was a match winner in every sense. From 1995 to 2012 he hit 71 centuries in 560 matches scoring 27,483 runs at an average of 45.95.
He was an attacking batsman and a good leader, Ponting often came through in big games, supporting Australia’s top position in world cricket during his time.
4. Kumar Sangakkara – 63 Centuries (Sri Lanka)

Kumar Sangakkara was Sri Lanka’s main batsman from 2000 to 2015. He was known for his style, reliability and mental strength. He made 63 international centuries and over 28,000 runs in 594 matches with a highest score of 319.
Sangakkara was good in both Tests and ODIs, combining classic technique with the ability to score fast when needed.
5. Jacques Kallis – 62 Centuries (South Africa)

Jacques Kallis was a true all-rounder and was a mainstay for South Africa for almost 20 years. With 62 centuries and over 25,000 runs he was as good as the best batsmen and also contributed with his bowling.
His average of 49.10 in 519 matches shows how consistent he was whether South Africa needed to save a game or build a strong base.
6. Joe Root – 57* Centuries (England)

Since 2012, Joe Root has been England’s go to batter. He has 57* international hundreds and over 21,000 runs, he’s a very solid player. Root mixes good technique with mental strength which helps him do well in any situation. He’s proven himself as a good player whether he’s scoring in Tests or guiding England in ODIs. His highest score is 262 and his average is near 50, so he scores well and can play long innings.
7. Hashim Amla – 55 Centuries (South Africa)
Hashim Amla brought skill and calmness to South Africa’s batting line up. From 2004 to 2019 he made 55 centuries in international cricket, over 18,600 runs. Amla, known for his smooth shots and great timing was good at building long innings. His highest score is 311 not out. He had an average of 46.56 in all formats. He was a main player for South Africa for over 10 years, mainly in ODIs because of his ability to keep the score moving and find openings.
8. Mahela Jayawardene – 54 Centuries (Sri Lanka)

Mahela Jayawardene, a smart leader and good batter was a part of Sri Lanka’s best years. Between 1997 and 2015 he made 54 international centuries, almost 26,000 runs. Jayawardene was good under pressure and adapted to the situation. His highest Test score is 374, one of the highest in cricket history. His partnerships with Sangakkara were the base of Sri Lanka’s wins.
9. Brian Lara – 53 Centuries (West Indies)

Brian Lara was one of the most skilled batters in cricket. From 1990 to 2007 he made 53 centuries and over 22,000 international runs. Lara’s grand style, strong shots and great skill made him hard for bowlers to handle. He holds the record for the highest individual Test score, 400 not out. With an average of 46.28 he had some amazing games and is a West Indies legend.
10. David Warner – 49 Centuries (Australia)

David Warner changed the way openers play with his aggressive style. From 2009 to 2024 he has 49 centuries in 383 matches, almost 19,000 runs. Warner can take control of the game early so he’s helpful in all formats. His highest score is 335* in Tests. Warner’s quick starts helped his team win, whether in Australia or elsewhere.
