Shreyas Iyer is all set to captain his Punjab Kings team as they take on the Rajasthan Royals in match 18 of the IPL 2025 season this Saturday, April 5. The match will be held at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Stadium in Mullanpur, starting at 7:30 PM IST. So far, Iyer’s Punjab Kings have been on a winning streak, clinching victories in both their games. They kicked things off with a thrilling win against the Gujarat Titans in a game that saw both teams scoring plenty of runs. Then, they followed up with an easier win against LSG where they chased down the target comfortably.
Iyer has really stepped up as a captain and as a player, showing leadership on the field. In the first match, he scored an impressive 97 runs off just 42 balls, helping his team set a strong total. In the second match, he finished with an unbeaten 52 runs off 30 balls, sealing the game quite nicely. Remarkably, he hasn’t been dismissed yet this season, putting him in a position to achieve some interesting records in this next game.
Let’s take a look at what records Shreyas Iyer might reach when Punjab Kings face off against Rajasthan Royals:
1. Close to 500 T20 Fours in Asia
So far, Iyer has hit 513 fours in his T20 career across just 219 innings. Out of those, 494 have come while playing T20 games in Asia. If he manages to hit just six more fours, he will hit a milestone of 500 fours exclusively in Asia. He’s also hit 71 fours while representing Team India in T20 internationals played in Asian conditions.

2. On the Cusp of 50 IPL Catches
Throughout his IPL career, which started back in 2015, Iyer has taken a total of 49 catches in 118 matches. With just one more catch, he could become part of the select group that has caught 50 or more balls in IPL history. It’s worth noting that only a handful of players have made it into the exclusive 100-catch club in the tournament’s long history.

3. Five Catches Away from 100 T20 Catches
In his career of 225 T20 games, Iyer has managed to grab 95 catches. He only needs five more to hit the 100-catch mark. Out of those, he has pulled off 16 catches while playing for Team India in T20 internationals. Most of his catches in the IPL – 49 to be exact – came while playing for teams like Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, and KKR. The rest were collected while playing domestic cricket for Mumbai and West Zone.
As the anticipation builds up for this match against the Rajasthan Royals, all eyes will certainly be on Shreyas Iyer to see if he can achieve these impressive milestones. It’ll be exciting to see how it unfolds!
