As we have entered 2025, cricket fans are now waiting for the new IPL season, which is just a month away. In November last year, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the tentative window for the IPL 2025 season.
As per the latest official announcement, the IPL 2025 will kick off on March 22, 2025, a little later than initially expected. The tournament will feature 74 matches and will conclude with the final match on May 25, 2025.

When will IPL 2025 start?
As mentioned earlier, the 18th edition of the IPL will commence on March 22, 2025. As usual, 10 teams will participate, virtually split into two groups.
Each team will play 14 league matches, facing five teams twice and the remaining four teams once in the league stage.
Which teams will play the first match in IPL 2025?
The opening match of IPL 2025 will feature Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The Knight Riders, being the defending champions, will begin their title defense in front of their home crowd.
KKR won the IPL 2024 title by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final. They bowled out SRH for just 113 runs before chasing down the target in 10.3 overs to secure their third IPL trophy.

Which stadium will host the first match in IPL 2025?
Since Kolkata Knight Riders are the defending champions, they will host the first match at their home ground, Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
Eden Gardens has been one of the most iconic venues in IPL history. The stadium has hosted 93 IPL matches so far, with KKR playing in 88 of them. The franchise has secured 52 wins at this venue, making it one of their strongholds.
