The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) had a topsy-turvy ride in the previous IPL season. Following that, the franchise decided not to retain KL Rahul as their captain. A fallout between the LSG owner and Rahul was also a major reason behind the decision.
So, the franchise had a major shakeup ahead of the 2025 season. They bought Rishabh Pant for a massive sum of INR 27 crore to make him their new skipper.
In addition, Lucknow have assembled a new look batting lineup, which has added more firepower. The bowling attack looks more or less the same, with the addition of a few new faces.
That said, it will be interesting to see how their playing XI will shape up. As the IPL approaches quickly, here’s our prediction of LSG’s strongest playing XI in the 2025 season.

LSG Strongest Playing XI for IPL 2025
Openers: Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram
LSG will have a completely new opening pair this season. They will likely open with Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram. Plus, they can also provide breakthroughs with their handy bowling.
Both have been good performers in international cricket. But that hasn’t been quite visible in the IPL. So, LSG will need to have backups in place in case this pair fails to put up runs.
Middle Order: Nicholas Pooran, Rishabh Pant, Ayush Badoni, David Miller, Abdul Samad, Shahbaz Ahmed
LSG’s middle order is pretty sorted. They will have an aggressive Nicholas Pooran at No. 3. The Caribbean batter has been a consistent performer for the last three seasons. And his runs have come at an impressive strike rate.
Then, their new skipper, Rishabh Pant, will walk in at No. 4. He will continue with his fearless striking for his new franchise.
In case there is an early collapse, then Ayush Badoni will come to the rescue. His reliable batting will help arrest the further fall of wickets.
Following that, David Miller, Abdul Samad, and Shahbaz Ahmed will walk in to give finishing touches to LSG’s innings. Miller has been a proven striker, often pulling his teams out of trouble.
Bowlers: Mayank Yadav, Mohsin Khan, Ravi Bishnoi
A tearaway Mayank Yadav will lead LSG’s pace attack. The youngster impressed everyone with his constant 150+ kmph deliveries. LSG would hope he remains fit throughout the season and provides them with crucial breakthroughs.
Mohsin Khan will handle things from the other end. He didn’t bowl a lot in the last two seasons but has performed well in domestic cricket of late.
Ravi Bishnoi will be their lead spinner. He will spin his web around batters, along with Shahbaz Ahmed.

Impact Player: Avesh Khan/Akash Deep/M. Siddharth
LSG will bring in an extra bowler during their bowling chance in place of a batter. If there’s help for pacers, they will go in with Avesh Khan, who has shown his skills in the past few seasons.
They can also opt to go with Akash Deep, who can work out batters with his seam movement. And if the surface offers enough turn, then they might add M. Siddharth to assist Bishnoi and Ahmed.
