The explosive batsman from West Indies, Nicholas Pooran, has been made captain of MI New York for the upcoming season of Major League Cricket 2025. The team gave the announcement on social media.
Pooran is an important member of the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL and has been a great asset to MI New York. Last year, the franchise boomed with Pooran’s performance of 388 runs at a very high strike rate. They all are so excited about him being named captain: “Our hero, our legend, our skipper.” He is a gifted wicket-keeper-batsman and is probably one of the fiercest competitors in the game right now.

Pooran scored an incredible 137 runs that came from just 55 balls in the Final against Seattle Orcas and played a crucial role for MI New York. Recently, he stepped down from international cricket, hinting at a greater focus on global T20 leagues. With 2,275 runs, he retired as the West Indies’ leading T20I run-scorer.
He is now set to lead MI New York in the MLC 2025 season starting June 12.
