The Indian Premier League (IPL) hosted its first edition back in 2008. Since then, it has taken over the other cricket tournaments and become the biggest cricket tournament in the world. Its growing popularity attracted all the big names, which also made it a highly competitive tournament.
However, there have been some superstars who have cracked the code and performed consistently over the years. This article is related to such stats. Here we will talk about the list of the top ten run-scorers in the IPL history. Since 2008, only seven batters have scored 5000 or more runs in the IPL, and all these superstars will feature on this list.

10. Dinesh Karthik
Former Indian wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik has played all 17 seasons so far. However, he has retired after the IPL 2024 and had a quite successful career. Karthik has played for six different teams (DC/GL/KKR/KXIP/MI/RCB) in his IPL career. Overall, he has played 257 games and scored 4842 runs in 234 innings at an average and strike rate of 26.31 and 135.36, respectively. DK has also scored 22 half-centuries with a best of unbeaten 97.
9. Robin Uthappa
Former Indian batter and 2007 T20 World Cup star Robin Uthappa has played 15 seasons of the IPL. He retired after the 2022 edition. Uthappa played for six different teams (CSK/KKR/MI/PWI/RCB/RR) and featured in 205 matches. He has played at different positions in his career and succeeded in most of them. Uthappa scored 4952 runs at 27.51 and a strike rate of 130.35. He scored 27 half-centuries with a high score of 88.
8. Chris Gayle
Veteran West Indian opener Chris Gayle holds the record for most runs in T20s (international + domestic). The Southpaw is the best T20 batter of all time. He played in the IPL for three teams (KK/PBKS/RCB) between 2009 and 2021. Gayle played 142 matches and scored a total of 4965 runs at an average and strike rate of 39.72 and 148.96, respectively. He scored six centuries and 31 half-centuries with a best of 175 not out. Gayle holds the record for most IPL sixes, fastest IPL century (30 balls), and highest IPL individual score.
7. AB de Villiers
Former South African superstar AB de Villiers also had a decorated IPL career. He played for Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru between 2008 and 2021, with most of his career being with RCB. De Villiers played 184 games and scored 5162 runs in 170 innings at an average of 39.70 and a strike rate of 151.68. De Villiers scored three centuries and 40 half-centuries with a best of 133 not out.
6. MS Dhoni
Legendary Indian captain MS Dhoni is the most successful captain in IPL history. He has won five IPL titles and two Champions League titles as captain. But as a batter as well, his record is very good. Dhoni plays mainly in the middle and down the order. Dhoni has played for CSK and Rising Pune Supergiant and played 264 (most matches in the IPL). The former CSK star has scored 5243 runs at 39.12 and a strike rate of 137.53. He has scored 24 half-centuries with a best of 84 not out.
5. Suresh Raina
Famously known as “Mr. IPL,” Suresh Raina also had a superb IPL career. He was associated with CSK and played for Gujarat Lions in 2017 and 2017, when CSK were suspended. Raina played 205 matches until the 2021 season and scored 5528 runs at an average and strike rate of 32.50 and 136.73, respectively. Raina scored one century and 39 half-centuries with a best of 100 not out.

4. David Warner
Former Australian opener David Warner has been the run machine and has scored most runs as an overseas batter. Warner is the only batter who has won the Orange Cap three times (2015, 2017 and 2019). Warner made his debut in 2009 and has played for Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad so far. The southpaw scored 6565 runs in 184 innings at an average of 40.52 and a strike rate of 139.77. Warner has scored most half-centuries (62) with four centuries with a best of 126. He led SRH to lift the 2016 title.
3. Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma has won the joint-most IPL title and led Mumbai Indians to five titles. The former MI captain played for Deccan Chargers between 2008 and 2010, and since then, he has been part of the MI. Rohit has played 257 games and scored 6628 runs at an average of 29.72, a strike rate of 131.14, and a best of 109 not out. Rohit has also scored two centuries and 43 half-centuries. so far.

2. Shikhar Dhawan
Shikhar Dhawan is probably an underrated performer in the IPL. The veteran opener has played for five different teams (DC/DCH/MI/PBKS/SRH). He won the IPL with SRH in 2016 and led SRH and PBKS in his career. Dhawan has scored 6769 runs in 221 innings at an average of 35.25 and a strike rate of 127.14. Dhawan has two centuries and 51 half-centuries, with a best of 106 not out.

1. Virat Kohli
There is only one batter who has scored more than 8000 runs in the IPL, and it is none other than the best modern-day batter, Virat Kohli. The superstar is the only player to play all seasons for one team: Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He has played 252 games for them so far and scored 8004 runs at 38.66 and a strike rate of 131.97. Virat has most centuries (8) in the IPL with 55 half-centuries with a best of 113 not out.
