The Asia Cup is remembered for its great plays. Fans think of great batting and match-winning bowling but some days are tough for bowlers because of strong batting.
Here’s a list of bowlers with the most expansive spell in an Asia Cup match when they bowled all 10 overs. These matches prove that even star players can have a hard time.
1. Shafiul Islam – 95 Runs vs Pakistan (2010, Dambulla)

Shafiul Islam gave up the most runs in an Asia Cup game. In 2010, Pakistan’s strong middle order hit the Bangladeshi fast bowler all over the field. He gave 95 runs in 10 overs, at a rate of 9.5 runs per over. He got 3 wickets but Pakistan played very well, especially Shahid Afridi so his effort wasn’t enough.
2. Sohail Tanvir – 87 Runs vs India (2008, Karachi)

Sohail Tanvir, who is known for his unusual left-arm bowling, had a very bad day in the 2008 Asia Cup. Facing a strong Indian batting side, Tanvir gave 87 runs in 10 overs. He got only 1 wicket and his rate of 8.7 shows how aggressively India played with Virender Sehwag and Suresh Raina leading the charge against Pakistan’s bowling.

Indian fast bowler T. Kumaran was under a lot of pressure in a high-scoring match against Pakistan in 2000. Kumaran was hit for 86 runs in 10 overs without getting a wicket. It’s one of the most expensive spells by an Indian bowler in the Asia Cup as he had trouble stopping Pakistan’s strong batting line up.
4. Sompal Kami – 85 Runs vs Pakistan (2023, Multan)

Nepal’s Sompal Kami faced a tough test when he bowled against Pakistan in the 2023 Asia Cup. The right-arm bowler gave 85 runs in 10 overs but got 2 wickets and even bowled a maiden over. He showed great fighting spirit which is impressive because Nepal is still a growing cricket nation.
5. Khaled Mahmud – 81 Runs vs Pakistan (2000, Dhaka)
Khaled Mahmud of Bangladesh had a bad day in the 2000 Asia Cup. He bowled in front of his home crowd in Dhaka and was hit for 81 runs in his full 10 overs. He didn’t get any wickets and Pakistan’s batsmen were merciless, hitting him all around the park.
6. Shahadat Hossain – 81 Runs vs India (2012, Mirpur)

In the 2012 Asia Cup game at Mirpur, Shahadat Hossain had a match to forget against India. He didn’t take any wickets and gave 81 runs in his 10 overs. At 8.1, his economy was not good as Indian batsmen, especially Virat Kohli, took advantage of the situation. Though recognized for his bounce and aggression, Shahadat had issues with his control and couldn’t get a breakthrough as India scored a lot of runs.
7. Mohammed Shami – 81 Runs vs Sri Lanka (2014, Fatullah)

Even Mohammed Shami, one of India’s most reliable fast bowlers, had a bad day at the Asia Cup. In a group-stage game against Sri Lanka in 2014, Shami gave 81 runs in 10 overs. But, he did get 3 wickets, unlike some others listed. His economy was still high at 8.1. This was mostly because the Sri Lankan middle order took advantage of short balls. It just shows that even the best bowlers can give runs when under pressure.
8. Irfan Pathan – 80 Runs vs Sri Lanka (2008, Karachi)

Irfan Pathan, who used to be India’s main swing bowler, had a tough time in the 2008 tournament. Playing on a flat pitch in Karachi, Pathan gave 80 runs in his 10 overs and only got one wicket. His usual swing didn’t work in the subcontinental conditions and Sri Lankan batsmen took full advantage. At 8.0, his economy was one of his worst in ODI, especially in a tournament like Asia Cup.
9. Kasun Rajitha – 79 Runs vs Afghanistan (2023, Lahore)

During the 2023 Asia Cup, Kasun Rajitha of Sri Lanka was smashed by Afghanistan. Though he got 4 wickets, Rajitha gave 79 runs in his 10 overs. At 7.9, his economy wasn’t that bad but Afghan batsmen put him under pressure throughout. It was a mixed bag, he got plenty of wickets but took a lot of runs. Still his breakthroughs were important in helping Sri Lanka to turn the game around.
10. Shaheen Shah Afridi – 79 Runs vs India (2023, Colombo)

Shaheen Shah Afridi, Pakistan’s main fast bowler, also had a tough time in the high-pressure game against India in Colombo in 2023. Indian batsmen handled his swing without problems and punished everything that wasn’t perfect. It was a rare bad day for Shaheen, which shows how intense India-Pakistan games can be even for the best bowlers.
