A man who’s stepped in twice for Rohit in the recent Australian tour, he has also led India once- and lost twice. The comments about Bumrah say he’s capable of leading, though injury concerns might make the selectors reluctant to consider him for a full-time position.

Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill is another candidate for captaincy, praised in the IPL for his tactical acumen.
