The BCCI has convened a Special General Meeting on March 1 of next year in Mumbai with the objective of electing the joint secretary, a post which was vacated after the elevation of Devjit Saikia to the BCCI secretary.
Saikia of the Assam Cricket Association succeeded Jay Shah in the secretary’s position when the latter became the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) on December 1.
For other state associations, the SGM notice from BCCI had a one-point agenda.
“The notice is hereby given for a Special General Meeting (hereinafter called SGM) of the BCCI, which will be held at 12:00 PM IST on March 1, 2025, at BCCI headquarters in Mumbai, to transact the business of Election and Induction of the Joint Secretary of BCCI,” said the apex board in a statement.
Names such as that of former Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) President Avishek Dalmiya (East Zone), the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) chief Rohan Jaitley (North Zone), and Sanjay Naik from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) are, in some quarters, being synonymous with the post.

As seen in the cases of BCCI secretary and treasurer, there will be no elections to elect the board’s new joint secretary.
Ordinarily, the SGM has to be called upon giving 21 days prior notice, which has been done by the BCCI.
This will be the second SGM within less than two months, the last one being on January 12, wherein Saikia was elected the new secretary, and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia was elected treasurer. Both were elected unopposed.
The purpose of the joint secretary is to oversee various administrative work and collaborate with other board members, ensuring that the board runs efficiently in performing its operation.
