Aaron Finch, the ex-cricketer for Australia, backs MS Dhoni’s immediate return for another season of the IPL. After suffering a four-wicket defeat against the Punjab Kings (PBKS), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were the first team to be eliminated from IPL 2025. For the first time in IPL history, CSK misses the playoffs for two consecutive seasons.
Discussions on what lies ahead for MS Dhoni began just after the team’s elimination. The interim skipper even stated during the toss prior to the match that he was unsure whether he’d play in the following game. Finch, however, deemed it to be a joke.
“No, there wasn’t. I think it was all tongue-in-cheek. Those two have had some great moments at the toss over the years. Danny asks him questions like that, and MS always keeps it light. So, I’m sure we’ll see MS Dhoni again,” Finch quipped during a discussion on JioHotstar.
After Ruturaj Gaikwad was sidelined due to elbow injury following five games, Dhoni was handed the captaincy. But unfortunately for CSK, even this change failed to make a difference, with the five-time champions winning just one out of the five games under his leadership.
Currently languishing, CSK is at the bottom of the points table with just two wins from ten matches, hence four points. Not once under Dhoni did CSK finish last; it will aim to turn things around in the coming four matches starting with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on May 3 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
