Former South Africa skipper AB de Villiers is confident about making his comeback in cricket. He retired from international cricket in 2018 and three years later, from all forms of competitive cricket. However, more than three years after his retirement, De Villiers has said that he feels he can still play the game.
While talking on ‘Running Between the Wickets’, the former South Africa skipper didn’t confirm his comeback but mentioned that he won’t return to professional cricket but rather a casual one.
“I can still play cricket again one day. Although nothing is confirmed. But I feel that my children are putting pressure on me and I feel that I can go to the nets with them. My son can make me play with the bowling machine. If I enjoy it, then maybe I can go somewhere and play casual cricket again. Not professional IPL or Africa tour.”

Further talking about his eye, de Villiers said, “I will try again and see if this eye is still working. It is a bit blurry, but the other one is the main one and is working well.”
AB further said, “I am doing it for my kids and will see if I can go and enjoy cricket. Even if it is completely casual and then we will see where we draw the line with it.”
‘Taking inspiration from Imran Tahir’ – AB de Villiers
The former RCB player in the IPL was asked about whether he took inspiration from his former South Africa teammate, Imran Tahir. In reply, the former said ‘yes’ and added that he will ask Tahir to join his team. Tahir is currently playing for Joburg Super Kings in the SA20 2025 at the age of 45.
“Yes, absolutely. Wherever I go, I will probably ask him to join my team. He is one of my favorite people. However, nothing serious right now. We are not talking about RCB or big things. I don’t want to feel that pressure again. So wherever I go, I will have some fun. I want to do this work with children.”
