Ben Duckett and Akash Deep became the talking point of the second day of the fifth Test between England and India. Ashish Nehra shared his thoughts on Akash Deep’s celebration.
England had a good start, scoring 92 runs as Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett hit the Indian bowlers hard. After India scored 224, England seemed to be in control till Akash Deep dismissed Duckett and broke the opening partnership. Akash then celebrated near Duckett and spoke to him as he was walking back to the pavilion with his arm around his shoulder.
On Sony Sports Network’s Hindi show, Ajay Jadeja was not happy with Akash’s actions after the dismissal. Jadeja told Akash, your celebration was unnecessary because India was behind England and you don’t understand the game.
Referring to Jadeja’s comments, Ashish Nehra joked that Akash Deep should be fined for showing love. A fine for showing love? Nehra asked.
Nehra said those in the commentary box might not know what actually happened between Akash and Duckett. He said maybe there was some conversation between them throughout the series which led to Akash Deep’s reaction.
He said it wasn’t really a send-off. He also said Shubman Gill should take more responsibility as captain. Gill should be the one speaking to Akash Deep about the situation. The captain should be the one telling the bowler what Ajay has said. He should be the one getting angry about the game situation, he said.

When asked about a fine, Nehra said there’s no reason to fine him since it wasn’t a verbal send-off. I don’t think he should be fined, Nehra concluded.
After struggling with the English bowlers and being bowled out for 224, the Indian bowlers led by Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna fought back. They both took four wickets to dismiss England for 247 and give them a lead of 23 runs.
At the end of the day, India scored 75 runs for the loss of two wickets with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Akash Deep at the crease. They led by 52 runs.
