Throughout Test cricket, Labuschagne has been among the most responsible players for the team. His teammate Beau Webster has voiced his opinion in support of Labuschagne about whether he should open in the World Test Championship final 2025 against South Africa at Lord’s. Webster shows belief in his skills despite Labuschagne having made only one Test century since late 2022 and having a miserable time at Glamorgan with an average of merely nine.
Australia also has the young opener Sam Konstas and Usman Khawaja, and the competition has become fiercer now that Cameron Green is back. When he’s at his best, he’s fantastic. His record proves that he’s a hundred-maker and a game-changer. I don’t think the move to the top order will bother him much. Whoever is picked for that final is going to be ready to go, said Webster.
It’s interesting to note that Webster supports Labuschagne, who has never yet opened for Australia in Tests and still has to prove himself in that role. The best and really only great position for him so far has been No.3 down the order, as he has amassed 3,956 runs at an average of 48.84.

Webster himself, alongside Green, holds hope for a place in the final XI. He had mentioned, as cited in The Sydney Morning Herald, “He’s a generational talent; a fantastic cricketer; he’s only going to get better. At twenty-five, I’m sure he has so much cricket left in him.”
South Africa will be the team Australia hopes to beat for the WTC mace again come Test cricket on June 11.
