Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of next month’s Champions Trophy and is also a doubt for the IPL following back pain that hasn’t responded sufficiently to rehabilitation.
In a press release issued by Cricket Australia, it was made known that Marsh is ruled out of the Champions Trophy, which is to hold in Pakistan and Dubai between February 19 and March 9. Some other reports also indicate that he may presently continue to be doubtful for the IPL.
“Mitchell Marsh was invoked from the forthcoming ICC men’s Champion’s Trophy 2025 due to recurring pain in the lower back and dysfunction,” read a statement put out by CA.
The National Selection Panel and Australian men’s medical team ruled Marsh out of the tournament with the injury that has not responded sufficiently to rehabilitation. “His lower back pain flared in recent weeks that led the NSP to make the longer term decision for Marsh to carry on with a bit more extensive period of rehabilitation,” it added.
The CA said the national selection panel was to meet soon to name a replacement for Marsh in the 15-member squad for the competition along with fellow all-rounders Aaron Hardie, Glenn Maxwell, and Marcus Stoinis.
“Marsh will take a period of additional rest and rehabilitation so that he can keep moving on the pathway to return to play procedures. The NSP will meet on a later date to decide about a replacement for Marsh.”
“The final squads for the ICC men’s Champion’s Trophy will be submitted at any time from February 5 to February 12,” said CA.
Lucknow Super Giants appointed the 33-year-old Marsh as the IPL indirectly for its commencement on March 23, 2025.
Marsh was dropped for Beau Webster for the final Test of the month’s five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy that just concluded.
The four Tests were an indifferent series for him. He seldom shared the workload of a bowler with his front-line mates and had only once crossed the double-digit mark in seven innings.
