Woakes may have dislocated his shoulder during the fifth Test at the Oval and it’s a big blow to England’s chances of winning the series.
Woakes, the England captain, dived to stop a Karun Nair shot near the boundary on the first day of play on Thursday and landed awkwardly on his left shoulder. He was in a lot of pain and had to be helped off the field by England’s physio, Ben Davies, who used his sweater as a sling.
I don’t know much about it but it doesn’t look good, said Gus Atkinson at the press conference after the day’s play. “It’s always bad when someone gets hurt. I hope it’s not too bad and he’ll have everyone’s support no matter what.
Woakes will have a scan and we’ll get an update. Atkinson told the BBC he’d be surprised if Woakes plays again in the game.

Before the injury Woakes had a decent day, he took the wicket of KL Rahul.
England need others to step up now Woakes is injured. He’s the only bowler in the team who has played all five Tests in the series. He has 11 wickets at 52.18 in 181 overs.
England are in a tough spot. They restricted India to 204/6 but their fast bowling options are limited to Atkinson and Josh Tongue.
Atkinson said he’s ready to contribute, “I feel good. I know I’ve only got this one game so I can go for it.”
