Former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn announced that he won’t return as Sunrisers Hyderabad’s bowling coach for IPL 2025.
The pacer took to X (formerly Twitter) to reveal his decision to step down as SRH’s bowling coach. But Steyn will continue in his position with SRH’s sister franchise in SA20, Sunrisers Eastern Cape.

Prior to his complete departure, Steyn hadn’t joined the SRH support staff in the IPL 2024, citing personal reasons. Then James Franklin, the former New Zealand pacer, had replaced him ahead of the season, assuming the charge of SRH’s bowling coach.
“Cricket announcement. A big thank you to Sunrisers Hyderabad for my few years with them as bowling coach at the IPL, unfortunately, I won’t be returning for IPL 2025. However, I will continue to work with Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the SA20 here in South Africa. Two time winners here in SA20, let’s try to make it THREE in a row,” Steyn posted on X.
Steyn took up the job of SRH’s bowling coach ahead of the 2022 season under then-head coach Tom Moody. In his two seasons with the franchise, he worked with the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T Natarajan, Umran Malik, Marco Jansen, etc.
Steyn is also associated with the Sunrisers Eastern Cape in South Africa’s SA20. Under his guidance, the franchise has come out victorious in back-to-back seasons in 2023 and 2024.
The pacer was also part of the IPL as a bowler, turning up for the Deccan Chargers, SRH, RCB, and Gujarat Lions. He took 97 wickets in 95 matches at an economy rate of 6.92.
