There are reports that the Delhi Capitals are deciding on two persons as their possible captain for IPL 2025. In what could be the biggest surprise since their inception, the franchise released Rishabh Pant into the auction pool just before the IPL 2025 season.
All IPL teams except for the Delhi Capitals have confirmed their captains for IPL 2025. The Delhi franchise, on the other hand, is yet to name its captain for the mega event.
The Economic Times reports that the Capitals have narrowed it down to two big Indian names-Axar Patel and KL Rahul-for the position of captain.
It is noted that Rahul is most favored to lead the Capitals, as he has previously captained Punjab Kings and Lucknow SuperGiants. Rahul has scored 4683 IPL runs in 123 innings with an average of 45.47 and a strike rate of 134.61.
However, the veteran batter is likely to miss the first couple of games due to the birth of his first child, meaning the Capitals might settle on Axar as captain for IPL 2025.
While he has not been captain in IPL before, Axar has been an integral part of the Capitals cause, scoring 967 runs and taking 62 wickets in the tournament.
In another blow to an already depleted DC, superstar batter Harry Brook has declared his inability to participate in the tournament due to national commitments. The Capitals are frantically trying to fill the void left by him, with only 12 days remaining before the start of the competition.
